District 6 Partners with the Riley Institute for Project Based Learning Endorsement
In South Carolina an interest in project-based learning (PBL) is growing and many schools and districts across our state have started incorporating project-based learning into their teaching practices in order to increase student engagement, promote in-depth learning, and provide opportunities for students to build the relevant and necessary skills a 21st century college and career-ready graduate needs. In June of 2016, Spartanburg District Six partnered with the Riley Institute at Furman University to provide teachers with a year long, three-course project based learning endorsement approved by the State Board of Education and the Legislature. This year’s cohort of 15 classroom teachers spanning grades kindergarten through twelfth grade will be among the first in the state to receive this endorsement and the support for their understanding and implementation of project-based learning within their classrooms. Through the design and implementation of project-based learning units of study as well as support provided both in and out of the classroom, our teachers are equipped to continue their implementation. Please join us in congratulating this group of outstanding innovative educators who have diligently worked to bring critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication into their classrooms.
We are excited to continue our partnership with The Riley Institute at Furman University to begin our second cohort this Summer of 2017.
